Glycolic Acid Toner - Top 3, Compare and Buy

By

Glycolic acid toner is a mixture of glycolic acid, Aloe Vera, grape fruit extracts, and barbadensis leaf juice. Glycolic acid or (hydrolyacedic acid) is highly soluble in water and is found primarily in sugarcane, unripe grapes, canteloupe, pineapple, beets, and sugar. These ingredients act together to remove unwanted dirt and dead skin cells from the skin. It is suitable for all skin types, even dry and sensitive skin and should contain no alcohol, which can be damaging to the skin.

Usage of the Glycolic Acid Toner

This specialized toner is used for a variety of skin ailments. The primary use is for acne on the face, but has many other uses as well. When used properly the toner can reduce acne, reduce the size of pores, minimize the appearance of wrinkles, refine the texture of your skin, and exfoliate. It is also used to clear black-heads, white-heads, bumps, age spots, dry skin, and eczema. Dead skin cells and dirt combine to clog up the pores on the face, and acne or dry looking skin is the unwanted result of that build-up. When you apply glycolic acid toner before you go to bed or when you get home form work it removes the dirt and skin cells leaving the skin refreshed and refined.

Benefits of Glycolic Acid Toner

One of the special features of glycolic acid is that it is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid which allows the outer layer of skin to be penetrated so the acid can reach the second layer of skin and the living cell walls. Glycolic acid is unique because it is comprised of extremely small molecules, thus allowing the glycolic acid to easily penetrate the skin and the cells that make up the skin.  This type of absorption is called bioavailability. This tiny little fact makes glycolic acid very popular in the use of many skin products. It not only helps heal and prevent acne, but actually makes the skin thicker by increasing the collagen in the individual cell which is what reduces the presence of wrinkles.

Drawbacks of Glycolic Acid Toner

There are some minor drawbacks, however. It does need to be used regularly, or it won't be effective. If the acid concentration is too high mild skin irritations, redness, and flaking can occur. These instances are very rare. The concentrations used are much higher than normal and only used under the supervision of a doctor. The irritations caused are short-lived and go away on their own after a couple of days. One of the great aspects about glycolic acid toner is that it is mostly organic. So, even though the word 'acid' can be scary, this particular  acid is taken from all natural products. Also, the production of glycolic acid is specialized and less energy is used with fewer impurities left over as waste.

Top 3 Glycolic Acid Toner

There are several products in the open market today that use glycolic acid in their facial toner. Some of the top brands are Lancome, Clinique, Reviva Labs, Alba Botanica, and Derma E. There are distinct differences in each product ranging from the percentage of glycolic acid in the product, a wide difference in price, and what the product is used for. There have been studies done that show that the price of the product does not indicate it's effectiveness. What does affect the desired result is the percentage of glycolic acid present in the product. 10% is the best percentage for a facial toner. It is up to the consumer to first decide what the specific ailment is to be treated, then find the right product that is in their price-range.
